No Alcohol?

The rule of Islam plays an important role in Pakistani nightlife.  Because of the fact that alcohol is prohibited based on Islamic law, I assumed the nightlife in Pakistan to be non-existent. However, after doing some research, this is not the case especially in Lahore.

My Mother’s words, “you don’t need alcohol to have fun,” seems to be the slogan for the city. To travelers, Lahore is known as the hot bed of entertainment and nightlife.  The fun appears to be never-ending, boasting live music concerts, disco dancing, and art.   For me, it is odd to see nightlife that is not driven by alcohol.  I find it interesting that the culture and nightlife in Lahore is based around resturants with outdoor seating, live street concerts and outdoor dancing. Its clear that alcohol is not needed for socialization.

  1. Well I would have to agree with the people of Pakistan, alcohol is not needed to have a good time and a great night life. You can have a lot of fun without alcohol, which goes against what most people think in America. I think cities in America should try having more free outdoor concerts and other things for people to do without needing to drink alcohol.

  3. It must be an Italian family thing... My mom says that to me all the time, "You know you can have fun with out alcohol". It would be great if people in the US realized that alcohol does not need to be consumed to have a great time. Good Post!

  4. After reading both "Wait Pakistan has a National Drink" and "No Alcohol" I'm wondering if maybe it isn't so weird that Pakistan has a national drink. Perhaps Americans have a national drink as well, maybe not a specific drink however a certain type, anything alcoholic!
